Quarterly Review of Health Food Registration and Filing from January to September 2025

Key Points: According to the information from the Special Food Information Query Platform of the State Administration for Market Regulation (hereinafter referred to as the "Special Food Information Query Platform"), as of September 26, 2025, a total of 2,719 domestic (excluding 12 products that have been cancelled) and 17 imported health foods have obtained filing certificates, and 155 domestic (excluding 4 products jointly applied for by two applicants) and 5 imported new registered health foods have been approved. Notably, this marks the first approval of imported health food registration in eight years.

 

According to the information from the Special Food Information Query Platform, as of September 26, 2025, a total of 2,719 domestic products (excluding 12 domestic products that have been cancelled) have obtained filing certificates, among which 1,349 are non-nutrient supplement products (accounting for 49.6%), and 1,370 are nutrient supplement products (accounting for 50.4%).

(1) Filing Quantity Statistics by Province, Autonomous Region, and Municipality

In the first three quarters of 2025, enterprises from 26 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities have obtained filing certificates. Shandong Province has the largest number of filings, accounting for 30.3% of the total domestic filings, followed by Anhui Province and Guangdong Province, accounting for 13.4% and 10.2% of the total domestic filings, respectively. Overall, domestic filings are relatively concentrated, with the top ten provinces accounting for approximately 90% of all domestic filings.

(2) Domestic Health Food Filing Applicants

In the first three quarters of 2025, a total of 546 domestic enterprises have obtained filing certificates. The top three enterprises are Weihai Baihe Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Shandong Jiankangyuan Bioengineering Co., Ltd., and Haodi (Shandong) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. The top ten enterprises account for approximately 19.6% of all domestic filings.

(3) Filing Categories of Non-nutrient Supplement Products

In the first three quarters of 2025, a total of 1,349 non-nutrient supplement products have obtained filing certificates, accounting for 49.6% of all domestic filing products. Among them, the most approved products are those using coenzyme Q10 as the raw material, with a total of 363, accounting for 26.9% of all non-nutrient supplement filing products; the least are those using spirulina as the raw material, with a total of 15, accounting for 1.1% of all non-nutrient supplement filing products.

(4) Filing Situation of Nutrient Supplement Products

a. Types of Nutrients in Domestic Nutrient Supplement Products

In the first three quarters of 2025, a total of 1,370 domestic nutrient supplement products have obtained filing certificates, accounting for 50.4% of all domestic filing products. The most common are multiple nutrient supplement products, with a total of 563, accounting for 41% of all nutrient supplement filing products.

b. Products Supplementing a Single Nutrient Statistical analysis shows that among the products supplementing a single nutrient, the products supplementing selenium are the most numerous, with 102 types, accounting for 20.7% of the total number of products supplementing a single nutrient. The top ten single-nutrient supplement products in the first three quarters of 2025 account for approximately 91.7% of all single-nutrient supplement products and 33.0% of all nutrient supplement products.

c. Products Supplementing Two Nutrients

Among the products supplementing two nutrients, those supplementing calcium + vitamin D are the most numerous, with 111 types, accounting for 35.4% of the total number of products supplementing two nutrients. The top ten products supplementing two nutrients in the first three quarters of 2025 account for approximately 75.5% of all two-nutrient supplement products and 17.3% of all nutrient supplement products.

d. Dosage Form of Domestic Nutrient Supplement Products

From the perspective of product dosage forms, among the 1,370 domestic nutrient supplement products that have obtained the filing certificate, tablets (including ordinary oral tablets, chewable tablets, lozenges, and effervescent tablets) are the most numerous, with 711 types, accounting for 51.9% of the total; followed by soft capsules, with 289 types, accounting for 21.1% of the total; oral solutions (including oral liquids and drops) rank third, with 200 types, accounting for 14.6% of the total.

02 Filing Situation of Imported Health Food

(1) Filing Situation of Imported Health Food from Different Countries or Regions

In the first three quarters of 2025, a total of 17 imported filing products obtained the filing certificate, coming from 6 countries or regions.

A total of 7 enterprises obtained the filing certificate for imported health food in the first three quarters of 2025, with each enterprise obtaining the filing certificate for one product.

(3) Nutrient Distribution of Filing Products of Imported Health Food

In terms of the number of nutrients supplemented by the products, products supplementing three or more nutrients are the most numerous, with a total of 8 types; followed by those supplementing two nutrients, with a total of 5 types; and finally, those supplementing a single nutrient, with a total of 4 types, as shown in Figure 10.

(4) Dosage Form of Filing Products of Imported Health Food

The dosage forms of the imported health food approved in the first three quarters of 2025 are relatively simple, with only three types: tablets (including ordinary oral tablets, chewable tablets, and effervescent tablets), soft capsules, and powders, as shown in Figure 11.

03 Registration Situation of Domestic Health Food

After searching on the Special Food Information Query Platform of the General Administration, a total of 261 domestic registered health food products with the approval number prefix of 2025 were approved in the first three quarters of 2025. Excluding the cases of joint applications by two applicants (a total of 4 types), the actual number of approved domestic registered health food products is 257, among which 102 are technology transfer registered products and 155 are new product registrations.

Among the 155 approved registered new products, there are 9 dual-function products.

b. Function Distribution of Single-Function Products Among the 155 approved new registered products, 146 were single-function products. The top three health functions were enhancing immunity, maintaining healthy blood lipid levels, and promoting intestinal peristalsis and relieving constipation (tied for third place) and improving bone density (tied for third place).

(2) Distribution of dosage forms of domestic approved new registered products

Among the 155 approved new registered products in the first three quarters of 2025, the top three dosage forms were hard capsules, tablets, and soft capsules, accounting for 66% of the total. These dosage forms are widely used due to their convenience of administration, portability, and stable manufacturing processes. The food forms of registered new products include powder, beverages, candies, pastries, drinks, and biscuits. The specific distribution of dosage forms is shown in Figure 14.

(3) Distribution of regions of applicants for domestic approved new registered products

Among the 155 approved new registered products in the first three quarters of 2025, based on the addresses of the applicants, enterprises from 25 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the Central Government obtained the approval certificates for registered products.

(4) Use of substances in the health food raw material directory in domestic approved new registered products

Currently, there are 10 functional raw materials that can be used for filing, namely coenzyme Q10, broken-cell wall Ganoderma lucidum spores, spirulina, fish oil, melatonin, soy protein isolate, whey protein, ginseng, American ginseng, and Ganoderma lucidum. The use of these raw materials (including extracts) in health food registrations in the first three quarters of 2025 was investigated.

04 Registration situation of imported health foods

After an 8-year gap, 5 imported registered health foods were approved again. Among them, 4 products were from the same company in Hong Kong, China, and the other one was from Indonesia. The health functions mainly focused on enhancing immunity (3 products), with the rest being alleviating visual fatigue and dual functions of maintaining healthy blood lipid levels and providing auxiliary protection against chemical liver damage.
